Dr. Sanvir Maharaj
The warm, kind and forever smiling Dr Sanvir hails from sunny Durban, South Africa. His introduction into spinal care started quite early as he suffered from neck and back pain from the tender age of 6 years.
His mum thankfully discovered the amazing power of chiropractic and never looked back. His family found the care safe, gentle and effective when dealing with their health issues.
His personal experience with pain and spinal issues found him searching for answers in :
Pharmacy (1st-year Pharmacy, Rhodes University, South Africa) then Chemistry and Biochemistry (1st, 2nd and 3rd year, University of Durban-Westville).
Eventually Chiropractic school seemed like the obvious winner. An intense 6 years at the Durban University of Technology helped Sanvir obtain a Master's Degree in Chiropractic focussed on :
- Pain relief (all joints in the body + muscular pain + nerve pain)
- Posture and Spinal correction
- Sports injuries
- Pediatric + infant care
- Pregnancy care
His 5th year of chiropractic school especially helped mould him as a health professional as he was involved in a serious car accident which left him with a shattered right arm and extensive nerve damage. Steel plates were used to piece the bones togethor but sadly the nerve damage left the arm with barely any function and extremely weak.
With the support of family and friends, he started to devise his own rehabiliation and stengthening program involving chiropractic adjustments, exercises, stretches and visualization/meditation.
After a gruelling 8 months he started to regain function and strength which gave him a second chance. The experience gave him the expertise and confidence in family practice when he moved over to the UK 9 years ago. Over the last decade he has worked with the largest providers of chiropractic care in Europe which gave him the platform to help thousands of families and athletes from more than 4 continents and over 20 countries.
His passion, focus and commitment to helping people regain optimal health and vitiality is unrivalled.
P.S. He does has a quirky sense of humour.
"I started working at Healing Hands Chiropractic just under two months ago. As part of my initial training I attended a new patient consultation with Dr Sanvir. To my knowledge at the time I had no spinal or postural issues. I often experienced pain on the left side of my neck while driving, but always put it down to sitting in the same position for a long period of time. As a result of this, I repeatedly ignored it. After being shown my X-ray results on my follow up appointment I was astonished to find that I had completely reshaped my neck due to regularly looking down at my phone and laptop. I learnt that this is common among my generation. After just one chiropractic adjustment my pain has completely gone! I am currently undergoing more adjustments to correct the shape of my neck. After my experience and seeing the improvement that chiropractic treatment has had on so many or our clients, I would recommend it to everyone. Even if you are like me and have pain that you often associate with something else like driving, it is definitely worth getting checked out!"
Ruth joined us at Healing Hands after graduating from Nottingham Trent University in the summer with first class honours. As well as working at the clinic she is in the process of building a business with her older sister. She hopes to have it fully established this year. Ruth is passionate about animals. She enjoys taking her cute but very cheeky Westie ‘Jimmy’ on walks. Ruth also likes socialising with her friends who she loves very much and sees regularly.
"I started working here at Healing Hands Chiropractic nearly a year ago. After observing an increasing number of happy clients, I requested a full assessment – literally to see what all the fuss was about! After just 3 adjustments my sleeping pattern changed unrecognisably; after years of sleep problems, I was sleeping literally before my head touched the pillow! In addition to that, a neck pain that I had suffered daily for over a year just disappeared! I could not believe it. I am totally converted and continue to receive regular adjustments. I would encourage everyone to give it a try."
As well as working at the clinic Sadia runs her own successful photography business with her husband which keeps her very busy. They specialise in portraits and event photography including weddings. Sadia enjoys reading, and her all-time favourite book is ‘To Kill A Mocking Bird’ by Harper Lee. Sadia is passionate about music and loves to dance! Her ‘All Time Top 10’ includes ‘Kissing a Fool’ by George Michael, ‘No 1 Party Anthem’ by the Arctic Monkeys, and ‘Fools Gold’ by the Stone Roses. Sadia lives with her husband and 3 children.
